The apostle Paul wrote that Jesus:

gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ.

Eph. 4:11–12

We refer to the five gifts named in these verses as “ministry gifts.” They are also referred to as the “fivefold ministry gifts.” The fivefold ministry gifts are given to believers by Jesus to equip, build up, and lead His Church.

The fivefold ministry gifts have been around for 2,000 years. The Church has not always recognized them, but today, they are being recognized and embraced. In this book, we are identifying them. We are seeing their importance in the Church. We realize that we will only attain to the unity and maturity with all five ministry gifts functioning.
